To honor the June 16 decision by the CA Supreme Court to recognize same-sex marriages, the Calderwood Inn is pleased to offer a special package for gay and lesbian "newly weds".

Stay with us for two nights Sunday through Thursday and we will provide a complimentary bottle of wine and one of our gourmet picnics for two. The picnic includes crudités and hummus, sliced cold roasted chicken breast stuffed with spinach, onion and parmesan cheese, a grain salad, baguette, fruit and cookies plus a complimentary bottle of wine from one of our local wineries. This is a value in excess of $50. You tell us when you would like to enjoy your picnic - for lunch while at a winery overlooking the vineyards, at our Tuesday concerts in the Plaza or for a quiet evening meal on our porch or at one of our outdoor tables.

Be a Winemaker for a Day
at Christie Vineyards
Thursdays from June through October 2008

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at making and blending wine? Well here is your chance! At the Christie Vineyard winemaker for a day event, you will have a hands-on opportunity to blend, bottle, cork and label your own wine.

This four-hour event begins at 10:00 a.m. at Christie Vineyards following your signature breakfast at the Calderwood Inn. Prepare yourself for a fun-filled day that includes:

A tour of the vineyards with the winemaker to learn about how good wine starts in the vineyard, what to look for in good grapes and how they are nurtured, harvested, and then made into wine. You will see vines of Russian River Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec - all Rhone blend wines, and Petite Syrah, Zinfandel and Proseco. The tour also includes a visit to the organic gardens.
A local expert will talk about blending wine and how choosing the right mix of different varietals can change the taste and character of a wine. Learn what to look for when tasting a wine and how to identify key taste components and aromas.
Then you will break into small teams to try your own hand at blending.
The blending is followed by a blind tasting of each team's offering and a winning blend is selected.
An al fresco lunch prepared by Chef Mike Matson of Vintage Valley Catering in Healdsburg. Your sumptuous lunch will utilize the abundance of wonderful produce and meats that our area has to offer - all complimented by Christie Vineyards wines, of course!
After lunch you will then bottle, cork and label the winning blend for your own special bottle to take home with you.

The price for this day of hands-on fun is $195 per person and is inclusive of tax. This represents a SAVINGS of $40 per person off the normal price for this event. A two night stay is required and the cost of your room is additional and based on the room you reserve.
